Gabriel
Gabriel Salazar Vergara was born on the 31st of January, 1936. He is Chilean historical research. His fame is in his country for his studies of sociology and its interpretation of popular movements, including the recent student protests of both 2011-12 and 2006. Salazar was born into an impoverished family. Salazar attended Universidad de Chile and studied sociology, philosophy , and history. He also worked as an assistant to Mario Gongora and Hector Herrera Cajas the famous historian. Salazar was one of the Revolutionary Left Movement member from 1973 to 1973. His military would torture him in Villa Grimaldi during that year. Following his release from the prison camp for military, he fled to England. He was given a grant to continue his studies at the University of Hull. He received an PhD from the department of Economic and Social History from this university in 1984. In the following year after that, he returned to Chile. The relatively unknown Salazar's breakthrough occurred in the year 1985. Salazar's study subjects were labourers, peons and children huachos[A] as well as women. Salazar was among the first members of Nueva Historia Social, a historiographic movement. Salazar sees history as an instrument for promoting social action. Salazar said that he is liberal and critical historian during an interview. Salazar resisted the "Marxist term."
